Great location, good value for money and friendly staff.

Excellent location overlooking the ocean. We stayed in Cottage 4, which was superb with 2 bedrooms and all the amenities you need. We thoroughly enjoyed the outside braai area where we even watched the dolphins and a whale in the background.

Beautiful location and view. Lovely linen and extra warm blankets. Lots of privacy. Very friendly, helpful staff

Because of the wind it was difficult to braai outside in the stoep and the smoke went everywhere. Not a nice showerhead.

Exceptional

Wow! The kind of peace of mind I needed. Just to get away from everything and enjoy nature. This place is so peaceful and beautiful. I enjoyed my stay. The Gourikwa cottage was spacious, clean and well equipped. Had a flat tyre on the day we had to check out, and they sent one of the staff members who was on duty to help us put on a spare tyre...I will be back soon.

We enjoyed all the animals and fresh air. Amazing scenery!

We encountered a snake,which was quite scary. Also had an emergency with my mother's heart,no one at reception after hours,and no way to contact anyone during loadshedding,and the nearest hospital was quite far

A place truly good for connecting with natural.

What a truly magical spot. Our little fisherman's cottage, just a stone's throw from the shoreline (number 20), exceeded our expectations in every way. Cosy, comfortable, spotlessly clean, well equipped, and with the most amazing views from every window, it left us from wanting very little more. The coast is very rugged, so don't come expecting long stretches of sand, but if being at one with nature is important this spot couldn't be better. The walking trails through the reserve are well signed and cleared, with numerous information boards along the way adding to our hikes. The views from the summit point, and from the whale point look out, could hardly be improved (this would undoubtedly be a great location during the whale migration season). Sunsets behind the lighthouse were amazing and the sunrise over the sea to the east were worth getting up early for. Come well stocked with all the supplies you need as Gourikwa really is very remote, but despite this the access road is exceptional. Staff were welcoming and friendly, and quickly provided a necessary bottle opener which was missing from our cottage. All in all this was a perfect stay in every way; how we'd love to return.

Not a thing we didn't like, but the cottage could maybe be improved with some sun loungers or comfortable outdoor seating.

What was the highlight of Gourikwa Nature Reserve

A short but pleasant stay.

The location is great and it was wonderful being so close to the sea and spotting the whales from our bed! It was lovely and peaceful and wonderful being surrounded by such beautiful bush. We would certainly book in here again but would prefer to return during the spring or summer months when it is a lot warmer.

We were very disappointed in not being able to light the log fire in the lounge as it was really cold the two nights we were there. The wood was damp as it was left outside by the braai and the minute we tried to light it the whole room filled up with black smoke which was most unpleasant. The following day we decided we would get more wood from the shop and light the fire again. Unfortunately the shop had very little provisions and no supplies of firelighters or wood. It would be so much better if the shop was much better equipped especially when one is far from the nearest town. Even things like bread and milk to be supplied. The microwave did not work in the cottage and we did report it but we were not lucky enough to receive a replacement whilst there.

No shower curtain!!!! hot & cold water taps not marked & difficult to work ( you need to turn on the bath tap to get hot water out of the shower head)No DSTV..only Open View decoder...only SABC & E-TV

Ideal place to relax and to enjoy the sound of the ocean

Our cottage was very near to the sea and the view was amazing. There is an air of tranquility and serenity. The coastline is beautiful. Although I did not fish I saw a number of residents fishing.

The cottage we stayed in was a self catering cottage (Fishermans Cottage) which was basic but practical. However, we thought we would go to the hotel on the property for a drink. The hotel and the restaurant was closed (I think it is used for functions only). No swimming beaches due to the rocky coastline.

Peaceful, beautiful views, comfortable stay with an amazing bed

The reserve is peaceful with amazing birdlife, views of the ocean, wildlife. The room was very spacious, modern and comfortable. The roads in the reserve made for a nice scenic drive. The rates are amazing considering the value you get. The staff phoned us to make arrangements because of load shedding to make sure we would be able to access our room which was amazing service. The bed was super comfortable as well! Thank you for a stay that definitely exceeded my expectations!

Provision for lights because of load shedding. The rooms are very new, so finer things like a second bedside table (the one side of the bed has one), a table to put things down in the bathroom (very spacious and nice!!). These are just small suggestions and definitely did not impact on our stay.

A wonderful chilled weekend away

Quiet,peaceful,relaxing! Our cottage was close to the sea so the view was stunning. Cottage very spacious and comfortable. Had a very relaxing chilled weekend. Kids loved walking on the rocks and exploring.

Bit disappointing for the price paid.

The nature was nice. The personnel very friendly. The sea fantastic.

The first night we were very disappointed. The chalet had no chairs and table in the braai area, no salad bowls or bowls for the braai meat, no braai tongs and no fan. The second night we upgraded to a house with a view and it was much better.
